Shoulder Flashcards
What are the 4 joints in the shoulder?
Glenohumeroal joint
Acromioclavicular joint
Sternoclavicular joint
Scapulothoracic joint
What are the features of glenohumeral joint?
Synovial ball and socket joint
- Between head of humerus and goenoid cavity of scapula
- Articular surface supported and deepended by fibrocartilaginous gleniod labrum
- Small bony contact area
- Less bony congruency so more ligemntous to provide stability
Glenoid labrum what is it?
Fibrocartilage rim
Attaches to rim margin of Glenoid fossa and therefore deepens Glenoid cavity
Lined by cartilage
Superior labrum -long head of biceps attached
Inferior labrum - long head of triceps attaches
What are the key features of the Acromioclavicular joint?
Synovial plane joint
- articulation between clavicle and scapula
- surround by a joint capsual
- ligaments support joint
- coracoclavicular ligaments support weight bearing
What’s re the intra articular structures of Acromioclavicular joint?
- weight shaped fibrocartilahe articular disc
- forms a partial partition within joint
- helps with congrency of articular surfaces
What are the movements of the Acromioclavicular joint?
- vertical axis with scapula protraction and retraction
- sagittal axis with scapula elevation and depression
- axial rotation with medial and lateral scapula rotation
What are the key features of the sternoclavicular joint?
- synovial saddle shaped but function of ball and socket
- between medial clavicle and clvicular notch of sternum
- some attachments with 1st costal cartilage
- separated into two compartments by articular disc
- reinforced ligaments
What are the infra articular structure of the sternoclavicular joint?
- fibro cartilage disc, flat round and thinner centrally
- separates joint into two synovial cavity
- acts as supporting structures
- also provides congruency for joint
What are the movements of the sternoclavicular joint?
3 degrees of
- elevation and depression
- protraction and retraction
- axial rotation
What are the features of scpulothoracic joint?
- absent of joint capsule
- describe gliding movements between scapular and thorax
- requires movements of ACJ and SCJ
- attaches to thorax
What are the 3 capsular glenohumeral Ligemnts ?
- superior glenohumeral ligament
- middle glen ligaments
- inferior glen ligaments
What is the transverse Humeral ligament?
Bridges upper part of intertubercle grove between greater and lesser tubercles
What is the coracohumeral ligament?
Lateral boarder of cor our process to neck of humerus
