Shocked Patient Flashcards
What is shock?
An acute circulatory failure resulting in inadequate tissue perfusion and energy production
As shock develops patients deteriate rapidly
Early recognition and treatment is important
How is shock treated?
Identify and rectify cause
Establish adaquete ventitlation and oxygenation
Restore optimum intravascular volume
Maintain adequate cardiac output and reanl perfusion
Maintain optimum internal metabolic enviroment
What does normal tissue perfusion rely on?
Cardiac output
Circulatory volume
Peripheral vascular resistance
What are the types of shock?
Hypovolaemic
Endotoxic/septic
Cardiogenic
Neurogenic
What are clinical signs of shock?
Tachycardia Hypotenison RAchypnoea Prolonged CRT Pale mms Hypothermia WEakness/depression Reduced urine output LAter can cause dilated pupils and coma
How is shock managed?
Identidy and rectify cause
Establish adequate ventilation and oxygenation
REstore optimum intravacular volume
Maintain adequate cardiac output and renal perfusion
Maintain optimum internal metabolic environment
How is shock treated?
Oxygenate Control haemorrhage IVFT, increase circulatory volume Bicarbonate to address metabolic acidosis Antibiotics Maintain body temperature
