SHOCK Flashcards
Compensating Shock Formula
HR (increased) x SV = CO (compensated) X PVR (increased)= BP (maintain)
Mechanisms that initially offset shock
- Sympathetic Response
- Hormonal Response
- Adrenal Response
Sympathetic Response
Increase: HR, CO, Contractility, PVR
Hormonal Response
Pituitary Gland -> ADH Secretion ->
Adrenal Gland -> Aldosterone Secretion ->
= Water and sodium retention by kidneys to help replenish plasma volume
Adrenal Response
Release of epinephrine -> Further Increase vasoconstriction-> Increase arterial pressure to perfuse heart and brain -> Blood is shunted from muscle, skin, kidney and liver / decrease hydrostatic pressure -> fluid moves from interstitial space to capillary to restore plasmas.
Decompensating Shock Formula
HR (increased) x SV (decreased)= CO (decreased) x PVR (increased) = BP (decreased)
Irreversible Shock Formula
HR x SV = CO x PVR = BP (all decreased except PVR)
