Shock Flashcards
When does shock occur?
- Innability to meet metabolic demands of tissue
- Hypo perfusion in cellular dysfunction
- Homeostastis inbalance between nutrient supply and deman
Early indication of shock includes?
Early detection and management Tachycardiac Tachypnea Alterered consiouness Cold diaphoretic skin Shallow resps Decreased urine output Hypotension
What is hypovolemic shock?
Low volume of blood or other fluid
Caused by bleeding, diarrhea, vomitting, dehydration
What is the management for hypovolemic shock?
Fluid resus
Increase preload
Fluid infused reflect fluid lose
Colloid or crystalloid
What is cardiogenic shock?
Inability to maintain adequate perfusion despite adequate circulatory volume
What are some signs of cardiogenic shock?
Low cardiac output Hypotension Anxiety Peripheral perfusion Dyspnoea Tachypnoea Distended neck veins Respiratory Alkalosis/Acidosis
What is disruptive shock?
- Impaired oxygen and nutrient delivery to the tissues
- Failureof the vascular system
What is septic shock?
Systemic inflammation cause by sepsis, burns, pancreaitis, trauma
What are some signs of septic shock?
Ineffective tissue oxygen delivery Inappropriate vasolidation Normal or increased Cardiac Output Cell death Hypovolemic Warm pink, well perfused
What are some signs of anaphylaxis?
Nervous Anixety Dizziness Stridor Wheeze Tachycardia Hypotension Nausea Diarrhea Rash Utricarial
What is neurogenic shock?
- Known as spinal shock
- Loss of vasomotor tone
- Spinal injury about T6
- Commonly caused by trauma
Nursing care of shocked patients?
Rapid assessment Support Holistic care Maintain communication Interventions- Fluids, obs, medications Transfer
Shock pt assessment includes?
Cardiovascular assessment Neurological assessment Renal function asssessment Observations Frequent bloods Finding cause of the shocl Treating the cause
Primary survey of shock includes?
Airway with sprinal control Breathing Circulation Disability Exposure with temperature control
Secondary survey of shock includes?
Head to toe assessment Continued assessments (A-E, obs) Other assessments: Cardio, Resp, Neuro Documentation Medications Fluid management
