Shinin Flashcards
Isami Tasuki Nage
Uki and Tori face one another. Then each step back with right foot, kneel and slap mat with both hands and kiai. This is the Shinin Bow, also known as Isami. Uke punches Tori with right straight punch. Tori parries this punch (Nagashi Uke) with left hand. Tori steps forward with right foot, and grabs Ukis lapel with right hand, thumb down. Uki then steps deep under Uke with left foot, while extending Tori’s left hand towards Uke’s left thigh. At the same time, Tori pulls with right and squats, bringing right forearm (still gripping Uke’s lapel) over Tori’s head. Once left foot is planted, Tori pivots toward rear, throwing Uke on a line from Tori’s left hip to right shoulder. This includes lifting with Tori’s left hand.
Obi Hane Goshi
Uke attempts a double ear box. Tori blocks and then grasps Uke’s belt, with left hand palm down, and right hand palm up. Uke then steps in and fits in right hip, and throws Uke as in Hane Goshi.
Tsurikomi Taoshi
From kumikata. Tori pushes back and/or down with right hand, also stepping on right foot. This prompts Uke to resist being pushed to the ground, and this resistance creates a bit of a bounce. When Tori senses this bounce, he pivots on the right foot, throwing Uke with an arm whip on Uke’s right arm.
Momiji Nage
Tori and Uke face each other. Tori applise Ichimonji choke with left hand high and right hand low on Uke’s lapels. Uke throws Tomoe Nage. Tori counters by sliding sideways to left while maintaining grip.
Gyaku Hayanada
Uke punches with straight right punch. Tori parries and pulls on arm as in Ude Gyaku Ichi or Ni, but swings left leg high and over Uke’s head and arm, while pulling Uke down to ground. Tori ends with Uke flat on stomach, and Tori seated on Uke’s right shoulder gripping Uke’s wrist with both hands, wrenching the shoulder.
Hiza Nage
Uke punches with straight right, stepping with right foot forward. (For the sake of Uke’s safety, Uke’s right toe shoud be angled in significantly, at least 45 degrees.) Tori parries (Nagashi) with left hand, while cutting over Uke’s right elbow joint to break Uke’s frame. At the same time, Tori’s left foot sweeps up to the side of Uke’s right knee, collapsing it.
Osaekomi Gyakute Tori
Tori performs Eri Gatame, but leaving Uke’s right arm loose. Uki reaches under Tori’s left knee, intending to grab and roll. Tori flexes knee, trapping Uke’s hand, extending and barring Uke’s arm.
Kobushi Shime
Uke attempts double ear slap. Tori ducks and grasps behind Uke’s knees, lifting and throwing with shoulder. Once Uke is on the ground, Tori places each fist into the interior of Uke’s knee joint, so that the outer tendon of that join divide the fist in half. Tori then drive up on fists, and down on ankles (which are under arms for submission.
Kesa Hazushi
Uke grasps Tori around midsection from behind including right (sword) arm. Uke grasps Tori’s lapels to secure grip. Tori strikes at Uke’s head with left hand, to distract, and then sits back into Uke, straddling Uke’s right leg. Tori grabs the lower part of the leg and pulls it forward, throwing Uke. Uke then turns 90 degrees to left and kneels on right knee using left thigh to bar Uke’s knee.
Kubi Shime Tomoe Gyakute
Uke performs Momiji Nage (see above). To counter, once on ground Tori turns toward Uke and presses into Uke’s armpit with right to create space. Meanwhile, Tori obtains Yubi Tori with his left hand on Uke’s right thumb (which is gripping Tori’s lapel). This takes the hand off the lapel, and is used to bar Uke’s arm. Pressing down on Uke’s arm forces Uke up and over to his face.
