Shift Exchange

Shift exchanges must be reciprocal, the exchange must be direct between two people.

Shift exchanges are NOT final until approved

**TeleStaff will be updated

to reflect members who have had their shift exchange privileges suspended.***

Shift Exchange Approval

When the respective Officer (captain or DC) is not available to approve the shift exchange in TeleStaff, a request for an EMERGENCY shift exchange

  1. May be made by contacting ?
  2. They will ensure who is notifed by email ?

  • an on-duty District Chief who may approve an emergency shift exchange and will ensure that the District Chiefs on the affected shifts are duly notified via email

Shift Exchange

Shift exchanges can

ONLY be arranged with ?

  1. A person of equivalent?

PARTIAL exchanges are subject to

  • EQUAL QULIFICATIONS and RANK

- IE ariel, OR at the discretion of the captain (approving officer)**

Shift Exchange Pay backs

*Shift exhanges must be paid back within ?*

  1. Wthin what time frame?
  2. How long can it be extended into a new year (with DC consult with PC) under extenuating circumstances

  • by a MAX of three (3) monthsinto the new year.

Shift Exchange

**How many shift exchanges do we get ? **

A
  • maximum of 24 partial (168 hours)
  • or seven (7) full shift changes (168 hours)

**may be restriced by the DC if individual training is being jeoprodized*

*may go from 168 hours to 216 hours if DC approves*

*anything OVER 216 hours must be approved by PC*

Shift Exchange

*No employee shall arrange a shift exchange in excess of ?

  1. How many consecutive hours ?
  2. OR be permitted to extend their shift by more than how many hours

Cannot arrange a shift exchange in excess of

  • twenty-four (24) hours consecutively

NOT PERMITTED to extend their

  • EXTEND their regular shift by more than FOUR hours.

*Partial shift changes are subject to (four things)*

number one is ONLY applicable to PARTIAL exchanges

  1. **must be made between personnel of equal qualifications (at the discretion of the officer I.E - signed off on an ariel, captain for a captain)**
  2. Valid Drivers licence appropriate for RANK** (all exchanges)
  3. exchanges shall not interrupt scheduled training or assignments
  4. responsible to arrange transportation to complete the shift exchange at no cost to the Corporation; department vehicles are not be utilized
  5. **inform their Officers well in advance so that alternate arrangements can be made if required**

#1 is only applicable to PARTIAL exchanges

Shift Exchange ACTING PAY

Acting Officers arranging shift exchanges
with FULL rank officers

WILL ONLY receive acting pay if

  1. IF they are scheduled to what ?

  • on the REPAYMENT DATE that the full rank officer replaces them.

**Im supposed to act on friday and that’s the day of my exchange**

Shift Exchange DICIPLINE (missed)

Personnel failing to report for a shift exchange will be subject to progressive discipline applied by the Fire Chief or designate.

The first (1st) offence ?

  1. Prohibited to do shift changes for how long ?
  2. Lose how many ?
  3. what else ?
A
  • prohibited from working any other shift exchanges for a period of six (6) months (from missed date)
  • lose one (1) lieu day
  • Pay back a shift at a time suitable to the DC/PC of the affected shift

**Extenuating circumstances will be considered and evaluated by the Fire Chief or designate.**
