Terms and Definitions:Casualty, Fatality and Accident:
Casualty: One who is injured or killed in a crash.
Fatality: A disaster resulting in death.
Accident: Harm or damage that is done or sustained.
Terms and Definitions: Passenger, Pedestrian, Cyclist and Injury:
Passenger: A person who is travelling in an automobile, bus, train, airplane, etc. but not operating it.
Pedestrian: a person who goes or travels on foot; walker.
Cyclist: A person who rides or travels by bicycle or motorcycle.
Injury: an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, damage or death.
Terms and Definitions: Percentage, Intersection, Roundabout and Collision.
Percentage: A rate or proportion per hundred.
Intersection: A place where two roads, or more meet.
Roundabout: An intersection laid out so that traffic moves in one direction around a central structure.
Collision: the act of colliding or coming violently into contact with.
Human, Vehicle and Road/Environment Causes of Road Crashes:
Human: Speeding, Fatigue, Drug use, Alcohol, Health issues.
Vehicle: Braking failure, Engine failure, Tyre Failure, Headlight failure, blinker failure.
Road/Environment: Wildlife, storms, Road condition, broken trees, intersections.
Road Crash Statistics (Trending):
The NWS crash data shows that the number of deaths in all categories has decreased. Passenger and driver deaths have decreased, but they have the most deaths each year. The death of drivers is definitely the most, while pedal cyclists have the least deaths. Also in four of the categories by the year 2015 the amount of deaths is nearly equal, with around 50 deaths in the categories each year.
