They can switch on lights, drive cars and cook.

Fulfil the mitzvot about shabbat.
Spend time in worship and prayer.
Obey the fourth of the ten commandments.
Why is Shabbat important for individuals? (3)
Jews can renew themselves physically and mentally.
Jews can spend time thinking about God and their faith.
Provides Jews the chance to meet new people.
Why is Shabbat important for Jews as a community? (3)
Families spend time together
It is the oldest festival so Jews need to carry it on.
It reminds Jews of when they were slaves in Egypt.

Shabbat in the synagogue? (3)
On Saturday morning, families go to the synagogue for morning prayer.
The sefer torah is taken out of the Ark and carried to the Bimah for the rabbi to read a section of.
The rabbi gives a sermon
Shabbat in the home? (3)
The woman of the home lights the Shabbat candles and recites some blessings.
The father of the household blesses the children and recites kiddush over wine.
Ritual cleansing of hands and the father says a blessing over the bread.
