For 7 days the mourners stay at home except for going to the synagogue for Shabbat.
What do Jews do on shiva?
Dont listen to music.
Dont have sex.
Sit on low chairs close to the ground.

‘sat on the ground with him for seven days’
What do male mourners do for the next 3 weeks?
Go to the synagogue every day to pray kaddish.
What is yahrzeit?
Anniversary of the dead.
What happens on yahrzeit?
A candle is kept burning for one night and day and kaddish is said.
What do liberal and reform Jews do on shiva? (3)
They allow cremation.
They put on a black ribbon instead of tearing their clothes.
They don’t stay in the house for 7 days.
