SH Chapter 2 - Air Systems Flashcards
1) Which valves will receive a close command when the DITCHING pushbutton is depressed (ARPO)?
- Avionics ventilation inlet & outlet fans
- Ram Air inlet
- Pack flow control valves
- Outflow valve
2) Will the DITCHING pushbutton always close the outflow valve?
No. Only when the pressurization mode is in Auto
3) Can the pilot control the outflow valve?
Yes. When MODE SEL pb in MAN (manual pressurization mode)
4) How many controllers are in the pressurization system?
Two. Identical digital pressurization controllers (CPCs)
5) How do you manually switch controllers?
Switching to MAN for at least 10 seconds, then back to Auto (MODE SEL pb on CABIN PRESS panel)
6) What does an amber FAULT light in the MODE SEL pushbutton indicate?
Both CPCs have failed
7) From what source does the pressurization system obtain landing elevation?
Auto - FMGC 1
Semi Auto - LDG ELEV Knob
8) When the mode selector is out of the AUTO position, how do you set a landing elevation?
Turning the LDG ELEV knob to field elevation and confirming on ECAM panel.
9) What protects the airframe from excessive cabin differential pressure?
Safety valves (two independent valves)
10) How many outflow valve motors are installed?
Three. Two for automatic and one for manual.
11) What happens to the pack flow rate when APU bleed air is in use or during single pack operation?
System provides higher flow rate
12) When should the PACK FLOW selector not be in the normal position?
With less than 115 pax - LO
Hot or humid conditions - HI
Or as directed for smoke ventilation
13) If the engine bleed air in-flight is too low what will occur?
Controller sends a signal to both Engine Interface Units (EIUs) to increase minimum idle and raise bleed pressure
14) What would cause an amber FAULT light to illuminate in the PACK 1 and/ or Pack 2 pushbutton (OOD)?
- Pack outlet overheat
- Compressor outlet overheat
- Pack outflow valve position disagrees with selected position
15) At what cabin differential pressure does the RAM AIR valve open?
Less than 1 diff
16) What causes the Pack Flow Control valve to automatically close?
- Low bleed pressure
- Compressor outlet overheat
- Associated FIRE pub pressed
- DITCHING pb selected ON
- Engine start sequence
17) What does an amber FAULT light in the HOT AIR pushbutton indicate?
Duct overheat (valve and trim air valves close automatically)
18) How many Air Conditioning System Controllers are there?
Two
19) Describe how the Air Conditioning System Controllers regulate temperature?
Modulating the bypass valve and ram air inlet of its associated pack
20) What occurs when an active lane of an Air Conditioning System Controller fails?
No effect. The second takes over.
21) What occurs when both lanes of an Air Conditioning System Controller fail?
Related pack is lost
Hot air and pressure regulating valve and trim air valve closes
22) How does the Air Conditioning System Controller configure its associated pack ram air inlet flap for takeoff and landing to avoid the ingestion of foreign matter?
Closes
23) If an air cycle machine (ACM) fails, what occurs?
Affected pack may be operated in heat exchanger cooling mode
24) What effect will the engine start sequence have on the pack flow control valves?
Closes and doesn’t open for 60 secs to allow for start of other engine
25) What logic controls the X-Bleed valve when the X-BLEED switch is in AUTO?
Valve will open and close automatically when:
- APU bleed valve open, X Bleed opens
- APU bleed valve closes, X Bleed closes
- System detects a leak, X Bleed closes
26) After engine start with the APU BLEED pushbutton ON, what source is supplying bleed air to the packs?
APU
27) The pneumatic system is monitored and controlled by what?
Two Bleed Monitoring Computers (BMC1 & BMC2)
28) If one BMC fails, can the other take over?
Yes
29) What does the amber FAULT light in the APU BLEED pushbutton indicate?
Leak
30) What causes the amber FAULT light on the ENG 1 BLEED and/or ENG 2 BLEED pushbutton (OOLD)?
- Overpressure
- Overheat
- Leak (wing or pylon)
- Valve not closed during start or when APU bleed on
31) What are the two functions of the engine bleed valves?
- Shut off
- Pressure regulating
32) When does the Lav/Galley Extract Fan operate?
Continually (when electric power available)
33) What is the purpose of the CAB FANS?
Recirculate and combine cold fresh air from packs and cabin air
34) With BLOWER and EXTRACT pushbuttons in AUTO how does the system operate?
Ground - Open, skin temp 9 degrees or higher - Closed, skin temp 12 C or lower In Flight - Intermediate, skin temp 32 C or higher - Closed, skin temp. 35 C or lower
35) With both BLOWER and EXTRACT pushbuttons in OVRD (smoke configuration) what are the positions of the INLET and OUTLET (EXTRACT) valves?
Inlet closes & outlet/extract opens
36) What is the status of the Blower and Extract fans with the Blower and Extract pushbuttons in OVRD?
Blower fan stops & extract fan continues to run
37) When is air conditioning introduced into the avionics compartment?
In smoke configuration (closed configuration)
38) Is the skin heat exchanger valve ever closed in flight?
Yes, closed configuration
39) What does an amber FAULT light on the BLOWER pushbutton indicate?
- Pressure is low
