SH Chapter 13 - Landing Gear Flashcards
1) What is the function of the two Landing Gear Control and Interface Units (LGCIU)?
- Extension and retraction of gear
- Operation of gear doors
- Supplies info about gear to ECAM and sends signals of whether the aircraft is in flight or on ground
2) When does the red arrow in the LND panel illuminate?
When the gear is not down and locked and aircraft is in landing configuration below 750’AGL.
3) What happens if your airspeed is 280 knots and you place the Landing Gear lever to DOWN?
Safety valve cuts off hydraulic supply to gear system
4) What do the red UNLK lights indicate?
Gear is not locked in the selected position.
5) What controls and manages all braking functions?
Brake and Steering Control Unit (BSCU)
6) What happens when you switch the A/SKID & N/W STRG to OFF?
- Anti-skid deactivated
- Nosewheel steering lost
- Differential braking remains available through pedals
- Triple indicator displays yellow (alternate) system brake pressure
- BSCU and ASCU are deactivated
7) What are the four modes of braking?
- Normal
- Alternate with anti-skid
- Alternate without anti-skid
- Parking brake
8) Which hydraulic systems provide pressure to the brakes?
- Green
- Alternate uses yellow backed up by hydraulic accumulator
9) When do the Autobrakes activate on landing if armed?
- LO or MED when ground spoilers are commanded
- MAX when speed is above 40 knots and ground spoilers commanded (Ground spoilers will not be commanded unless over 72 kts on a RTO)
10) What is the difference between LOW and MED AUTO BRK?
LO sends progressive pressure to brakes 4 seconds after spoilers deploy.
MED is 2 second after.
11) What does the AUTO BRK green DECEL light indicate?
Deceleration is 80% of selected rate
12) What is the Takeoff setting for Auto Brakes?
MAX
13) What will cause the MAX AUTO BRK to activate on a RTO?
Once ground spoilers are commanded and speed above 40kts. Just remember ground spoilers do not deploy on an RTO unless speed above 72kts.
14) If you lose Green hydraulic pressure will you have autobrakes?
No
15) Is Anti-skid available with Alternate Brakes?
Yes
16) How many brake applications are available with accumulator pressure?
At least 7
17) What does the BRAKES & ACCU PRESS triple indicator indicate?
ACCU PRESS displays pressure in yellow brake accumulator
BRAKES is only indicated when yellow hydraulic system controls brake pressure (in alternate or park)
18) How do we charge the yellow system accumulators?
Running the yellow electric pump
19) When brake accumulator pressure is low, how is it recharged?
Ensure you obtain ground clearance first, then run the yellow electric electric pump
20) If the ACCU PRESS indicator is low and an external walk-around is to be completed, what should you do?
Ensure you obtain ground clearance then run the yellow electric pump
21) How do you verify the Parking Brake is set?
ECAM PARK BRK showing and ACCUM PRESS shows pressure
22) If the parking brake is activated and no yellow hydraulic or accumulator pressure is available, do you still have available braking?
Have normal braking as long as you have green hydraulic pressure.
23) What 3 things occur when you turn the Gravity Gear Extension hand-crank?
- Isolates the green hydraulics from system
- Unlocks the gear doors
- Allows gravity to drop the gear
24) How many turns of the Gravity Gear Extension handcrank does it take to lower the gear manually?
3
25) What hydraulic system supplies nose wheel steering?
Yellow
26) The steering hand wheels can steer the nose wheel up to how much in each direction?
75
27) When using the rudder pedals for steering, when does the steering angle begin to reduce?
20kts
