Sexual reproduction and such :) Flashcards
What does meiosis/interphase do to cells?
In Meiosis/interphase, one diploid cell divides and makes 4 haploid cells.
homologous chromosomes
Pairs of chromosomes that have genes for the same transits arranged in the same order.
Asexual reproduction
Reproduction only needs one parent and makes an exact copy of the parent.
Meiosis?
Meiosis is a type of cellular reproduction in which the number of chromosomes are reduced by half through the separation of homologous chromosomes, producing two haploid cells.
Mitosis?
A mitosis is a form of Asexual reproduction, that makes exact copies, all single cells organisms reproduce through mitosis Multicellular organisms use mitosis except for sex cells.
Telophase
-DNA spreads out and returns to it thread-like appearance
-2 nuclei form around chromosomes
Interphase
-DNA copies/ Cell gets bigger
-One diploid cell divides and makes for haploid cells.
Prophase
-The long strand of DNA wraps itself into chromosomes
-Nuclear membrane breaks down
Metaphase
-Chromosomes line up in the middle of cell
-spindle fibers attach from daughter cells
Anaphase
-Spidle fibers pull chromosomes apart
- 1/2 of each chromosome move to daughter cell
Telophase
-DNA spreads out and returns to it thread-like appearance
-2 nuclei form around chromosomes
What is the longest phase of the cell cycle?
Interphase
CYTOKINESIS
Forms two new daughter cells , cell pinches
Purpose of MITOSIS
-Growth
-Repair injury
-replace lost cells
Fission
Bacteria
