Photosythesis Flashcards
What is an autotroph?
An autotroph (producer) is an organism that produces its own food. Plants are autotrophs.
What is a heterotroph?
A heterotroph (consumer) is an organism that obtains food by eating other organisms.
What is photosynthesis?
The process when a cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to make food.
What performs photosynthesis?
Plants and some other small organisms perform photosynthesis.
Where does photosynthesis take place?
Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts of cells.
Stage 1 of photosynthesis?
Stage 1 involves chlorophyll capturing energy from the sun. Stage 1 takes place in the chloroplast.
Stage 2 of photosynthesis?
Stage 2 involves using water, carbon dioxide and light energy to produce sugar and oxygen.
What is cellular respiration?
The process by which cells burn glucose and oxygen for energy. Cells carry out respiration continuously as they need a constant source of energy.
Stage 1 of cellular respiration?
. Glucose is broken down to smaller molecules and a small amount of energy is released. This process is called glycolysis.
Stage 2 of cellular respiration?
Stage 2 takes place in the mitochondria. Small molecules are broken down further in the presence of oxygen and ATP energy) are released.
Where does stage 1 take place in cellular respiration??
Stage 1 takes place in the cytoplasm of a cell
Were does stage 2 take place CR??
Stage 2 takes place in the mitochondria.
