Sexual reproduction
Process of reproducing with two parents and a sperm cell fertilizing the egg.
Occurs in humans
Male=sperm
Female=egg

Meiosis
Process where gametes (sex cells) are formed
Involves crossing over of genes to create genetically different combinations of genes/chromosomes
Crossover and recombination
This occurs during meiosis and creates genetically different offspring
Chromosomes (coiled DNA) crossover and create genetically different offspring
Gametes
Sex cells
Sperm and egg
Fertilization
When the sperm meets the egg in the fallopian tube (oviduct) and creates a zygote
Start of pregnancy, zygote slowly develops into a embryo etc.
Zygote
Combined sperm and egg nuclei
Cell then divides to eventually form an embryo, etc.
Embryo
One of the stages of pregnancy where the developing embryo looks like many different organisms and does not resemble a human very much
Complete genetic information but low cell count
Fetus
Stage of pregnancy where the developing fetus carries out reflex movements to help it survive in the outside world, last stage of pregnancy
Menstrual cycle
When the woman has her monthly “period” where the egg is ready to become fertilized by the sperm, and is not, so blood is released fro. The uterine lining and released out the vagina
Estrogen and progesterone
Hormones responsible for sex characteristics in females
Hormones also aid in menstrual cycle and pregnancy
Testosterone
Hormone responsible for sex characteristics in males
Helps to make sperm in the testes
Ovulation
When the egg is released from the ovary into the oviduct.
Start of menstrual cycle
