what is chlamydia ? symptoms? how can pharmacist treat
chlamydia is a bacterial infection
if left untreated it can spread to reproductive organs and cause infertility
it can cause PID in women and ectopic pregnancies
symptoms are:
itching
pain when having sex or urinating etc
1st line treatment is Azithromycin 250mg x4 =1g as a single dose
2nd= doxycycline 100mg BD 7/7
pharmacist can test and prescribe
Clamydia can pass on through sexual contact and sharing of sex toys
levonorgestrel Levonelle: how is it used
Needs to be taken within 72 hours
prevents/ delays ovulation however does not disrupt an implied embryo and doesn’t cause an abortion
it is effective until the LH surge
copper IUD how is it used
needs to be used within 5 days
inserted into cervix
EllaOne Ulipristal acetate how is it used
needs to be given within 102 hours - 5 days
its effective after LH surge so therefore not reccomended if possibility of implanted pregnancy
missed COC what to do
if you missed one pill within a 24-48 hour time span when you just take you r missed dose as normal
if you’ve missed more than one then you need to continue taking and action dependent on which week you took are on
