EllaOne ( Ulipristal) works by
- preventing and disrupting ovulation
- alters endometrium so pregnancy cannot happen by inhibiting implantation
how does levonorgestrel work?
by inhibiting ovulation
- progesterone hormoine
levonorgestrel interactions and what can it increase the risk of
enzyme inducing drugs:
- carbamazepine
- phenytoin
- st johns wort
- barbiturates
- ritanovir
EllaOne interactions
- carbamazepine
- phenytoin
- phenobarbital
who shouldn’t take levonorgestrel and ulipristal?
women requiring EHC and are on enzyme inducing drugs should be given copper IUD instead
Levonorgestrel counselling
- 1500mcg in one single dose
- if vomiting in 3 hours take again
- not contraindicated in breast feeding however can take tablets after feeding baby
- can be taken at any point during mestrual cycle
- can take more than one but might affect menstrual cycle
EllaOne counseling
- 30mg single dose
- 3 hour vomiting then take again
- can be taken at any point during menstrual cycle
- dont breastfeed for one week once taken this medicine
- can be taken with or without food
side effects
nausea
headache
altered bleeding patterns
azithromycin
used to treat chlamydia and can be supplied as a P medicine to over 16’s by a pharmacist
can bring in a positive test result from camelle tasing kit to if partner has a conformed test
1 g single dose of azithromycin
cannot supply to under 16 as a P but can be given as a PGD
pharmacist would need to take a record of everything
