What is the Wolfenden Report?
1957- concluded that the criminalisation of homosexuality was against civil liberty. The law should prevent abuse and protect the young and other vulnerable individuals, but shouldn’t intrude into matters of personal morality.

A code breaker criminalised for his homosexuality- chemically castrated

A CofE priest who spoke out in favour of same-sex marriage
Describe marriage as a covenant
The sacrament of marriage is a binding, two way promise. Many disagree on whether this can be broken at all and whether divorce is permitted.
Define divorce
the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court or other competent body
Define annulment
Both parties can be released from a marriage if there is a technical issue
What is Mill’s liberty principle?
Negative- freedom from state involvement
People should be sexually free
Positive- active involvement of citizens in the state
Discuss Aquinas’ views of homosexuality
Against the precepts of ordering society and reproduction
Sex should be procreative
(However some people who follow natural law now argue that sex is for more than procreation, therefore its okay)
