Setting of London/houses Flashcards

1
Q

‘Like a district in some city in a nightmare’

A

Connotations of ‘nightmare’ = evil and fear, so awful it shouldn’t be real, can conceal Hyde
Talking about Soho - where Hyde’s house is, adds to sense of foreboding

‘Move the more swiftly and still the more swiftly, even to dizziness, through wider labyrinths of lamplighted city’

A

Labyrinths - city is like a maze, disconcerting + confusing
Moving swiftly + repetition - knows the city well, a threat
