What is Sertraline’s usual adult dose?
25-50 mg daily increasing in at least 1 week intervals.
MAX: 200 mg/day
What are Sertraline’s common side effects?
GI (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), insomnia, dizziness, headache
What are Sertraline’s monitoring parameters?
Mental status Nutritional intake and weight Suicidal ideation Growth in pediatric patients Anxiety and social functioning
What are Sertraline’s warnings?
Antidepressants increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults with major depressive disorder and other psychiatric disorders
What are Sertraline’s counseling points?
Avoid activities requiring mental alertness until effects are realized
If it causes drowsiness, give at bedtime
Avoid alcohol
Onset is usually 1 week, but may not be seen for 8-12 weeks
What are Sertraline’s available dosage forms?
Oral tablet: 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg
Oral solution: 20 mg/ml (must be diluted with 4 oz water, ginger ale, lemon/lime soda, lemonade or OJ only). Take immediately after mixing
