Q

what is the purpose of the fast phase of EPOC (refer to page 26)

A

it help drives fast recovery of PCR

as the rate EPOC slows down, equivalently PCR recovers at the same rate (mirror image)

Q

what is the relationship between body temperature and oxygen consumption in regards to exercise

A

Exercise-Induced Increase in Body Temperature:

During physical exercise, the body’s core temperature typically increases due to increased metabolic activity in muscles.

As body temperature rises, there is an associated increase in oxygen consumption. This is because the body requires more energy to fuel the increased metabolic processes and maintain the elevated core temperature.

Q

what are the effects of changing exercise pace on aerobic and anaerobic energy systems (refer to page 27)

A

refer to page 27

basically he talks about how each time you change pace,

in the immediate moment, you would utilize your anaerobic system (aka glycolysis) to give you that energy you need to increase pace, therefore decreasing PCR

Once you aerobic system kicks in, you would thus increase the lactate build up each time you increase pace

Q

what is a major criterion to say that VO2 max has been achieved

A

when you increase the workload further, you see no further increase in VO2 (a plateau in VO2 graph)

Q

what is a lactate threshold

A

also known as the anaerobic threshold or the lactate inflection point is a critical concept in exercise physiology.

It represents the exercise intensity at which there is a significant increase in the concentration of lactate (lactic acid) in the bloodstream during incremental exercise.

The lactate threshold is used to assess an individual’s exercise intensity and endurance capacity and is an important determinant of athletic performance.
