sepsis Flashcards
sepsis define
septic
life threatening organ dysfunction caused by dysregulated host response to infection
septic shock: subset of sepsis with circulatory and cellular/metabolic dysfunction associated with higher risk of mortality
sSOFA
Sequential [Sepsis-related] Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA)
glasgow coma scale
eye response
motor response
verbal response
septic shock
Despite adequate fluid resuscitation unable to maintain a
MAP ≥ 65mm hg
Serum lactate level > 2mmol/L
diagnosis
qSPOFA >/= 2 assess for evidence of organ dysfunction monitor critical condition fluid resuscitation vasopressors required? serum lactate level
qSOFA variables
RR mental status
systolic BP
SOFA variables PaO2 FiO2 GCS MAP administration of vasopressors serum creatinine urine output bilirubin platelet count
medical treatment
Broad spectrum antibiotics (infection)
Intravenous fluid (hypovolaemia)
Support CV system (Inotropes and Vasopressors)
Oxygen therapy – mechanical ventilation may be required
Dialysis (Kidney failure)
Stress ulceration prophylaxis
Nutritional support
Sedation/analgesia
multi organ failure
may follow sepsis or any process that makes excessive demands on O2 consumption
physiotherapy treatment AIMS
Therapies/techniques/modalities
Precautions: high temperature (short treatment)
