Definition
Life threatening organ dysfunction due to a disproportionate systemic inflammatory response to an host infection.
Pathophysiology
A pathogen causes stimulation of the immune system which creates cytokins.
Cytokins release sytoxic chemicals to kill the pathogens which also can cause endothelial damage.
Three physiological sepsis reactions
Coagulopathy- vascular thrombosis and suppression of platlets.
Hypotension- Cytonkins dilating the blood vessels.
Endothelium widespread destruction. Higher permeability
SIRS
Tachycardia- above 90bpm Altered mental state Pyrexia 38 degrees Hypothermia 36 degrees Hyperventilation above 20 Blood glucose above 7.7 without diabetes
Quick SOFA
Altered Mental state
Hypotension systolic 90 or below
Hyperventilation 22 or above
Sepsis red flags
Tachcardiya 130 BP 90 Sats 91 resps above 25 AVPU Lactate above 2-4
Sepsis 6
Going in Oxygen (Blood gas)
Broad spec antibiotic
IV fluids crystaloids
Going Out Lactate Blood Cultures Bloods- FBC, UNE'S LFTS CRP Fluid Balance

influenza
