SEPSIS 6 Flashcards
What are the components of SEPSIS 6?
- O2
- Blood Cultures
- Give IV Antibiotics
- Give IV Fluids
- Measure Lactate
- Measure Urine Output
What parts of SEPSIS 6 are part of the GIVE 3?
Oxygen
IV antibiotics
IV fluids
What parts of SEPSIS 6 are part of the TAKE 3?
Blood cultures
Lactate
Urine Output
What oxygen saturations should be aimed for in SEPSIS 6?
94-98%
Take ABG’s if unconvinced
What other cultures should be taken along with the blood cultures?
Sputum or urine if appropriate
If there is an abscess consider getting the surgeons to incise and drain it for culture
If antibiotics are not delivered within the first hour, how large is the increase in mortality?
Increases by 7.6%
What IV fluids are usually given to fluid resuscitate septic patients?
0.9% saline or hartmanns
Why is dextrose not given as an IV fluid for resuscitation in SEPSIS?
It does not increase the blood pressure
What mean arterial blood pressure should be aimed for during fluid resuscitation?
> 65mmHg
How much fluid should be given over the first 3 hours?
30ml/kg
If a patient is still hypotensive after 3 hours of fluids, what step is next?
Move to HDU for a central line and vasopressors
What does a high lactate indicate?
Hypoperfusion
- it is also associated with high mortality
Urine output is a marker of what?
Organ perfusion
What is considered a feasible urine output?
0.5/kg/hr
What is the difference in ratio of nurses:patients in ICU, HDU and on the normal wards?
ICU 1:1
HDU 1:2
Ward 1:8
