Documentation:
Drawing peripheral blood and catheter blood cultures:
- Catheter specimen quantitative colony count should be 5X higher than peripheral venipuncture OR
- time to positivity must be at least 2 hours sooner OR
- Identical isolates from culture tip and peripheral blood is supportive evidence
Most common agent: coagulase negative staph (S epidermidis)
