dysfunctional, extreme immune system response to infection which causes life threatening organ dysfunction

what is septic shock
A
subset of sepsis with circulatory (severe low BP) and cellular/metabolic dysfunction (organ failure)
*usually higher risk of mortality

what is the initial step when treating a patient with sepsis?
A
fluid resuscitation

what are current initial fluid resuscitation guidelines? how is fluid resusciation guided after that?
A
30 ml/kg, afterwards guided by hemodynamics
