Q

what is mixed venous oxygen saturation, where is it measured from, and why to get its value?

A

(Coox or SvO2): percentage of oxygen bound to hemoglobin in blood returning to the right side of the heart
measured from tip of PA catheter (that way it tracks venous blood from SVC, IVC, and coronary veins)
get its value when CI is low and want to see how the body is truly perfusing (>60% is good)

Q

what is the difference between SvO2 and ScvO2?

A

ScvO2 is central venous oxygen saturation. It is not as accurate as SvO2 because it is a measurement taken from the end of the CVL (IJ or subclavian) and only measures the venous return from the SVC. It can be used in collab with other measurements if you dont have a PA catheter (>70% is normal)
