What is the separation of powers?
The political principle that requires the powers of government (legislative, executive, and judicial) to be held be separate bodies, or branches.
Why did the enlightenment philosophers want to have a separation of powers?
To prevent injustices and abuses of power that can be inflicted by a single king or queen. They wanted subjects to become free and equal citizens. (democracy)
