What was the period of the age of exploration and why was it named that?
The period was from 15th to 16th century and the name is because Europeans explored territories that were unknown to them.

- Christopher Columbus 1492 , crossed the Atlantic ended up in the Caribbean Islands
- Ferdinand Magellan 1519-1522, sailed south around the coast of South America, first to cross the Pacific Ocean
- Jacques Cartier 1534, explored the Gulf of St-Lawrence, returning to Americas to sail up the St-Lawrence River
