Separation Flashcards
Mixtures being seperated
There is no chemical bond so they can be separated by filtration, crystallisation, simple distillation and fractional distillation
Soluble Solids from solutions
Using a Bunsen burner evaporate the solution to leave behind crystals
Insoluble solids from liquids
Using filter paper pour the solution through to leave behind the insoluble solids in the filter paper (purification)
Distillation
The liquid is evaporated before being condensed (liebig condenser)
Fractional Distillation
As mixtures have different evaporating temperatures
Things with a greater evaporating point will condense at the bottom due to a temperature gradient
Things with a lower boiling point will continue to rise before eventually condensing at the correct temperatures
