Q

How are metals separated using carbon

A

If the metal is less reactive than carbon, carbon will displace the metal from its compound

8
Q

Why can solids not undergo electrolysis

A

In a solid the metal can not separate into its ions and then atoms
They are in fixed positions and cannot move

9
Q

Explain the steps of electrolysis

A

An electric current will pass through the electrolyte (molton or dissolved) and the ions will move to the corresponding electrode (cathode or anode)
The positive ions will move to the cathode and the negative ions will move to the anode
