What is a simple sentence?
One finite verb and one main clause
Compound Sentence
Two or more finite be made out of more than two clauses. A co-ordinating conjunction is used to join the clauses. FANBOYS

Complex sentence
One main clause and one or more subordinate clauses these are joined by non-co-ordinating conjunction.
What are co-ordinating conjunctions?
Joins team words or ideas of equal weight
Join a main clause to a sub-ordinate clause
Subordinating conjunction
What is a phrase?
Group of words that doesn’t contain a finite verb.
What is a clause?
A group of words containing a subject and a finite verb.
What is a main clause?
Can stand on its own.
What is a subordinate clause?
It is a part of a complex sentence and cannot stand alone on its own as it is dependent on the main clause.
What constitutes a sentence? (4)
- A group of words that makes complete sense and contains a complete thought
- Begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark
- Contains a subject and a finite verb; the subject may be understood
- May comprise one or more clauses
