Q

Aging & System Processing

A

Gradual decline in sensory and cognitive processing.

Increase in multisensory processing, ( due to decreased saliency of sensory input from sensory discrimination)

Q

Sensory discrimination disorder: Proprioception

A

Poor body awareness can result in poor posture and seeking of sensory information to give proprioceptive info

16
Q

Sensory discrimination disorder: Vestibular

A

Presentts as low muscle tone, poor balance, avoidant of activities

17
Q

Sensory discrimination disorder: Tactile

A

Ability to discriminate touch and conform to objects and pressure (dorsal column medial leminiscal tract)
Presents as difficulty with fine motor skills. Avoidant of textures. Hypersensitive to touch

18
Q

Sensory discrimination disorder: Vision

A

Influences hand-eye- coordination, spatial orientation, visual-motor, imagery, mental manipulation.

Avoidant of visual stimuli, or hesitant to go play

19
Q

Sensory discrimination disorder: Auditory

A

Negative resposnes to loud noises, difficulty focusing with background noise, overstimulation. Cant habituate. Connection to limbic system

20
Q

Sensory discrimination disorder: Taste and Smell

A

hypersensitivity to tasets and smells. Avoidance of certain places or people due to associations. Olfactory is only system directly related to limic system.

21
Q

Sensory modulation disorder: Failure to orient

A

Subtle limbic response: Lack of attention, shutdown or withdrawal.

22
Q

Sensory modulation disorder: Over Orientation

A

Overt limbic response: Imploding or exploding, escalation, avoidant, fight or flight, fight or freeze, shutdown or withdrawal
