What is sensory memory?
- everything you are exposed to, through senses, is processed
- registration
What is the goal of sensory memory?
the opportunity to be aware of everything
What is preconsciousness?
processing before thinking about what’s around us
What is the result of the cocktail effect?
-many conversations can happen around us and we are able to focus on the one we are in
What happens if something catches your attention? (Cocktail Effect)
Attention splits while actively processing surroundings
What happens when our minds drift?
we have 2-4 seconds worth of auditory tracing and make the attempt to recall that information
What is orienting memory?
innate ability to focus on intense stimuli (survival)
What is controlled memory?
purposeful focus on some particular stimuli (tracking a puck, hockey)
