Sensory Integration Flashcards
What is sensory integration?
*there are two processes: sensory processing and modulation
Sensory Processing - recognizing input
Sensory Modulation - ability to generate appropriate responses to the sensations
*Sensory Integration is the ability to both recognize sensory input and generate appropriate response to sensory stimulus
What does it mean if a child is hyper-sensitive?
over-responsive to their environment
What does it mean if a child is hypo-sensitive?
The child is under-responsive to their environment
Give an example of a hyper-sensitive child
Tactile hyper sensitive: may not like anyone touching him/her, may react by crying or pulling away

*may not like different textures
Hearing Hyper-Sensitive: sensitive to sounds, cover ears
