Sensory And Motor Pathways Flashcards
Explain motor pathway from upper motor neuron to lower motor neuron
UPPER - cell body in motor cortex and axon extends to the brainstem. motor nucleus is in brainstem)
LOWER - cell body in brainstem is associated with the nerve and then innervates muscle fibres
Name the three neurons involved in the sensory pathway
Primary neuron, secondary neuron, tertiary neuron
Where does the pathway sensory begin?
Behind the central sulcus
What do primary neuron dendrites innovate?
End receptor cells
Where is the cell body of the primary neuron?
In a ganglion
Where does the axon of the primary neuron synapse?
In the sensory nucleus in the brainstem
Where is the cell body of the secondary neuron?
Brain stem nucleus associated with the nerve
Where does the axon of the secondary neuron extend?
Thalamus (relay station)
Where is the cell body of the tertiary neuron?
Thalamus
Where does the axon of the tertiary neuron extend?
Primary sensory cortex (usually in the postcentral gurus of the parietal lobe)
