sensitivity Flashcards
what does the human nervous system include
- the cns- brain and spinal cord
- sense organs, such as the eyes and ears
- the nerves- these are made up of bundles of nerve cells, or neurones
what are the 3 main types of neurones
sensory neurons, motor neurons, relay neurons.
what do sensory neurones do
they carry impulses to the central nervous system.
what do motor neurones do
they carry impulses form the cns to effector organs
what do relay neurones do
carry messages from one part of the CNS to another.
explain how the structure of the dendron is related to their function of carrying nerve impulses.
long dendron carries the nerve impulse from receptor cells.
what do axon endings do
pass impulses to other neurones
what do dendrites do
collect impulses from receptor cells
explain how the structure of the myelin sheath is related to their function of carrying nerve impulses.
fatty myelin sheath insulates the neurone, so that the electrical impulse is carried quickly to the end of the axon
explain how the structure of the axon is related to their function of carrying nerve impulses.
long axon carries the nerve impulse to other neurones.
what do sense organs do
they contain receptors that can detect a change in the environment( a stimulus) and produce and electrical impulse.
what do nerves do
they join the central nervous system to the sense organs and effector organs
