1.Positionally factors - age, gender, sexuality, race, religion, wealth, education all affect how someone may feel in a place

How has London created a sense of belonging
As migration and diversity increases, there is more need to create a sense of belonging for those people.
London has one of the worlds largest Chinese new year festivals. It also has diaspora regions such as China town for mutual support and cultural preservation
What is transition town
An initiative which puts emphasis on community involvement in a town to help develop a sense of belonging
They also aim to reclaim their economy, supporting community businesses and hosting community events
Give an example of something which makes people feel like they don’t belong
NIMBYISM
“A place for everything and everything has its place” refers to the idea that society has a particular order which should not be broken
Social and spatial exclusion
Give an example of why its important to break the idea of being out of place
In the 20th century women were deemed ‘out of place’ if not cooking or cleaning. In response they protested , breaking this taboo , and changing the world we live in today

Gated communities (create a clear divide between rich and poor, there are over 1000 in the UK)
Short term housing (make people feel very dislocated)
Give an example of social exclusion in rural England
only 1% of national park visitors are not white
What is well being
The state of being comfortable, happy and healthy
List some factors which effect well being

Social - friends, education
