A

The use of numbers allows us to be very specific about a place and can give insight into the demographic that lives there, giving us a preconception.

A

Numerical values tell us very little about the actual lived human experience.

It may not always be accurate as people could lie

However they are not always accurate. Our current map, “the mercator projection” inaccurately depicts the size of the north and south latitude

They can reach a global audience and make geographical distances less of an obstacle

The give representations of true lived experiences and are great for giving “INSIDER EXAMPLES”

Photographs literally show the place as it is

However, photoshopping is a common thing, making places in photos appear better than they actually are. It also depends on when the photo was taken as things like weather and crowding are a big influence

A

Art can show a deep insider perspective of a place and represent it in a way that is easy to understand, and keep history alive

However, art can also be used to romanticise an area such as Paul Cazannes paintings of southern France

How does digital place represent a place

A

GPS systems are probably one of the most accurate forms of qualitative place, in just the click of a button you can follow a moving map down a road and see exactly what it is like, without worrying about photoshop etc.
