Global sense of place Flashcards

1
Q

Why is it important to have a global sense of place

A

Places are dynamic, with multiple identities and have no boundaries, because they are constantly being changed by the wider world. To try and fully understand one place, you can link it with a place beyond.

Q

Explain the story of Totnes

A

2012 a costa tried to open in Totnes. There were 42 places that already sold coffee so 75% of the population signed an online petition to halt it from opening. A further 300 people wrote to the council. They did this because Totnes is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and they didn’t want it to become a clone town, despite having a Superdrug and WHSmith
