Semifinal review random cards Flashcards
What are the 3 classes of pituitary hormones?
Corticotropin-related peptides
Somatotropins
Glycoproteins
What are the somatotropin hormones?
Growth hormone (somatotropin) Prolactin
What are the Corticotropin-related peptides?
ACTH,
LPH, Lipotropin. MSH is a cleavage product of lipotropin. LPH stimulates melanin production, and lipolysis and steroid production.
MSH,
Endorphin
They are ALL derived from various cleavages of POOMC.
`What are the Glycoproteins?
LH, FSH, TSH
They all contain 2 alpha chains and 2 beta chains.
ALL 3 contain identical alpha chains of 92 amino acids and their attached polysaccharide.
The alpha region is the effector region that induces receptor activation of adenylate cyclase, and the beta chain gives it its receptor binding specificity.
