Semi-conservative DNA Replication Flashcards
1
Q
1) What does DNA helicase do?
A
it unzips DNA (separates 2 strands) by breaking hydrogen bonds between complimentary bases
2
Q
2) What do the free DNA nucleotides do?
A
they are attracted to exposed bases by complimentary base pairing (A ->T, C->G)
3
Q
3) What does each DNA molecule have?
A
1 original strand (acts as a template) + 1 new strand
this is what makes it semi conservative
4
Q
4) How are the free nucleotides joined together?
A
through phosphodiester bonds by DNA polymerase
this forms sugar phosphate backbone of new dna strand
