Protein Synthesis - Translation Flashcards
1
Q
What is a codon?
A
triplet (3 bases) of bases on mRNA that codes for a specific amino acid
2
Q
What is a anticodon?
A
triplet of bases on tRNA that is complimentary to codon on mRNA
3
Q
What happens during translation?
A
- mRNA binds to ribosome
- tRNA with complimentary anticodon binds to mRNAs codon
- another tRNA with specific amino acid binds to the next complimentary codon
- 1st amino acid binds to an amino acid through peptide bond
- ribosome moves along mRNA and first tRNA leaves
4
Q
What is tRNA?
A
stands for transfer RNA
it is a polynucleotide
folded by h-bonds
anticodon is specific to the amino acid that it carries
