What is an Questionnaire
A set of written questions used to assess a person’s thoughts and or experiences
How are Questionnaires administered
- Face to Face
- En masse to a group
- Via the internet/ telephone
Open Question
Do not have a fixed range of answers; free to answer in any way they wish
Closed Question
Fixed number of responses from which to respond
Strengths and Weaknesses of Questionnaires
- Cost effective
- Data is straightforward to analyze
- Produce response bias
-Response may not be truthful

- Responses are not restricted
- Difficult to analyze

- Easier to analyze
- Responses are restricted
What is an Interview
A live encounter where one person asks a set of questions to assess the interviewee’s thoughts
How are Interviews administered
Face to face interactions between an interviewer and interviewee
Structured Interview
Made up of a pre-determined set of questions that are asked in a fixed order
Unstructured Questions
Works a lot like a conversation, no set questions
Semi- Structured Interview
Questions worked out in advance, interviewer is also free to ask follow up questions where appropriate

- Likely to achieve genuine reactions
- Time and Cost
- Interviewer Bias

- Easy to replicate
- Interviewer bias is less likely
- Less flexibility
- Quantative date

- Qualative date
- More flexibility
- Interviewer bias is more likely
- Data is difficult to analyse
