Correlation Flashcards
1
Q
What is a correlation?
A
Checking if two things are connected helps us to see if they are moving in the same or opposite direction
2
Q
Difference between a correlation and experiment
A
- Correlation does not show cause and effect
- In an experiment EVs are controlled, Iv is manipulated
- Experiment shows difference between two variables, correlation shows that relationship
3
Q
What is a correlation coefficient?
A
Numerical measure of strength and direction of the relationship between two variables
4
Q
How does correlational hypothesis differ from an experimental hypothesis?
A
It states the expected association between the covariables rather than the difference
5
Q
Strengths and Weaknesses of Correlational Method
A
- Good preliminary tools for research
- Correlations can be useful in making predictions
- Does not show cause and effect
- Lack of control over variables
