DISCOVERY
- did they come into hospital themselves?
- did they text a friend?
- were they accidentally discovered? Did they resist assistance?
What are symptoms of paracetamol OD?
Nausea, vomiting
LIVER - Fulminant liver failure (jaundice, abdomen pain, confusion, coma, death)
How do you treat paracetamol OD?
N-acetylcysteine
What are symptoms of NSAID overdose
Headache, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, tintinnuss
KIDNEY - AKI
How do you treat benzodiazepine OD?
Flumazenil
How do you treat opiate overdose?
Naxolone
How do you treat Digoxin OD?
Digibind (digoxin speicic antibody fragments)
When is gastric lavage used for overdose?
Rarely
Within 1 hour of overdose only

what are coping strategies for self harm
distraction techniques mood raising activities put tablets and sharp objects away avoid triggering images stay in public places or with supportive people avoid drugs and alcohol
pain - squeeze ice cubes, elastic band around wrist, bite into strong flabour (e.g. lemon)
