What is the presentation of postnatal depression?
Similar to normal depression

Focus on the COGNITIVE symptoms
BIOLOGICAL symptoms occur physiologically post partum
Where you admit a woman with severe postpartum depression?
Mother and Baby Unit
As you need to avoid separation if possible
When does postnatal psychosis?
2 weeks after childbirth
What are RF for postnatal psychosis?
Personal/family hx of postnatal psychosis / BPAD
Postnatal infection
Obstetric complications
What are symptoms of postnatal psychosis?
Delusions (usually paranoid e.g. that nurse is trying to kill baby)
Abnomal perception /hallucination
Affective e.g. mania
What are red flags for post partum psychosis?
Abnormal delusional beliefs / hallucinations
Thoughts / plants or intent off harm to self or baby
Sudden loss of bond with baby
What antidepressant is safe to prescribe in breastfeeding
