What is section 2 MHA?
Admission for assessment, max 28 days
What people do you need for section 2/3?
2 independent medical recomendations (min 1 doctor who is S12 approved)
- treating psychiatrist (S12 approved)
- other fully registered practitioner (independent doctor, preferably pt’s GP)
AMHP (approved mental health professional)
What is section 3?
Admission for treatment, max 6 months
What is the process for being admitted under S3?
DIagnosis is clear
Patient already well known OR via S2
When can you use S 5(2)
HOLDING POWER
to hold a patient already on the ward (NOT in A&E)
Maximum duration 72h
Who can get a S 5(2)
F2 or above

What is capacity?
