- previous successful skill increases confidence
- familiar situation such as playing at a home group increases confidence

High self efficacy increases task persistence and motivation
4 factors affect confidence in any situation:
- performance accomplishments = what you have done before
- vicarious experience= seeing others do it
- verbal persuasion= reinforce and encourage
- emotional arousal= interpretation of your level of anxiety
How to improve confidence
Performance accomplishments:
- relastic goals
- allow early success
- set goals on performance not outcome
Verbal persuasion:
- avoid social comparisons
- coach one on one
- use rewards
Vicarious experience:
- accurate demonstrations using role models
- allows modelling to occur
- builds confidence by seeing successful performance
Emotional arousal:
- stress management techniques to control arousal
- use mental practice
