what is ameateurism
participation in sport for the love of it, receiving no financial gain
what is sportsmanship
conforming to the rules and etiquette of a sport
- kicking the ball out of play when an opposing player is injured so they can get treatment they need
what is gamesmanship
bending the rules and stretching them to their absolute limit without getting caught
- delaying play at a restart
- time wasting
- faking an injury
what is citing
players can be cited for dangerous play
how can sportsmanship be encouraged
- giving awards of fair play to encourage it more
- use of technoology to help officials
- punish foul play and unsporting behaviour
- use of positive role models
- drug testing to try ensure fairness and a level playing field
what is win ethic
win at all costs
coming second is not an option
do all it takes in order to win even inlcuding cheating
what is positive deviance
behaviour which is outside the norms of society but with no intent to harm or break rules
- accidentally injuring another player
what is negative deviance
behaviour that goes against the norms and has a detrimental effect on individuals and society in general
linked with win ethic
e.g. taking PED’s
deliberate fouls
diving to win a penalty
