what is self disclosure?
- it involes revealing persoanl information about ones self
- the more info is revealed the longer the relationship progresses
what is reciprocity?
revealing somehting deep to a partner and they reveal something of ‘equal value’ back
what is the social penetration theory?
- as a couple shares more and more info to eachother they slowly penetrate more into eachothers lives
- this increases feelings of trust and attraction

- a strong correlation between self disclpsure and levels of attraction
- those who used self disclsoure and those who believed their partner did were more satisfied/comitted to the relationship

whats the matching hypothesis
the fact that people tend to form relationships with others who are equivalent to them in physical attractiveness
what did murstein (1997) find to support the matching hypothesis
- got indepedant judges to rate the atractiveness of 175 couples (99 real, 76 fake)
- the genuine coupples all recieved a similar rate of attractiveness
- this concluded that people of similar attractiveness are more attracted to eachother
what did fiengold (1988) do to find support fot the matching hypothesis?
- a meta-analysis of 17studies
- found significant correlation in ratings of attractiveness, between romantic partners
- high external validity as it used real life couples therefore it becomes more natural
